Hospice Africa Uganda works with numerous national and international partners to ensure palliative care is well integrated at the national and international levels, knowledge is shared and the need is recognised with evidence around the world. Here are our major partners.

In Uganda

The Palliative Care Association of Uganda is coordinating all palliative care services, and offers combined training programmes with the IHPCA.

The Uganda Ministry of Health is involved in ensuring the law is supportive to palliative care and facilitates access to palliative care. It also makes sure oral morphine is free for the whole country.

The Mulago Palliative Care Unit provides a model for hospital based palliative care for African countries.

Makarere University College of Sciences and Mbarara University of Sciences and Technology are partners in palliative care education in medical and nursing education. The IHPCA and Makarere University offer combined degrees in palliative care.



The African Palliative Care Association aims at coordinating and creating evidence for palliative care services in Africa. The Department of International Programmes that initiates palliative care work closely with APCA.

The International Association of Hospice and Palliative Care supports HAU and its students through scholarships for training and advocacy.

African Organisation for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC) / OAREC is a strategic partner in research and sharing of knowledge in Africa.
