For IHPCA students, the information and connections you need are found in the students’ handbook.
The majority of IHPCA courses are offered by distance learning. Course work for these are facilitated by an e-learning platform called Moodle. This platform provides easy access to course materials, provides conduits for communication with lecturers and provides a means to submit completed assignments.
- Diana Resource Centre
The Diana Resource Centre is located at the Institute of Hospice and Palliative Care in Africa 1st Floor, Rutamwebwa House. The Centre supports teaching, study and research with a wide range of resources in the field of palliative care and related medical fields in form of books, journals, reports, access to databases, newspapers, newsletters, photographs etc. Users can also benefit from the available e-resources that include Hinari, Libhub, open access e-journals, open access e-books, thesis and dissertations. Other services include a well equipped computer laboratory, a comfortable reading space, printing, scanning and photographing
The Resource Centre is open Monday to Friday from 8.00am to 5.00 pm and is closed on weekends.
During the period when students are in residence the Resource Centre is open Monday to Friday from 8.00am to 8.00pm and on weekends from 9.00 am to 2.00pm.
The Resource Centre remains closed on public holidays.
The Resource Centre is available to registered students and HAU team members. External users with permission may be allowed to access the facilities.

Completion of a course at IHPCA is a celebrated event. Graduations are held at Makerere University for the Bachelors and Diplomas in palliative care every January. The Diploma in Clinical Palliative Care graduations are held in February at the IHPCA/HAU campus in Makindye Kampala.
- Student Guild
The Student Guild is comprised of the student body with their own annually elected leadership. The Guild President is the head of the organisation and is assisted by other members in leadership. There is an IHCPA Student Guild Constitution, which mandates the functions and activities that fall under the purview of the Guild. The IHCPA Dean of Students works to support the Guild in its activities ensuring students issues are addressed.
- Life while in residence at IHPCA
For each course there are times when students will be in residence at IHPCA. IHPCA has services available for students to ensure this is a productive time of learning and testing. Students during this time are busy with course work, but they also have opportunities to take advantage of their time in and around Kampala.
IHPCA offers two residential hostels for students. These are Kateregga and Fazal Students’ Residences which are located on the shared IHCPA/HAU compound. These residences offer a variety of housing options for students.
Kateregga Residence has single rooms with shared restrooms, a fully equipped kitchen and shared living space with television and DSTV. Fazal Residence has single rooms, self-contained and shared restrooms, a fully equipped kitchen and large shared living space with a television connected to DSTV and a large outdoor sitting area. Additional amenities offered for students include use of a washing machine, or full laundry services, and meals.
