The Institute for Hospice and Palliative Care in Africa (IHPCA) is a tertiary institute providing education in palliative care. IHPCA has grown from a small education department within Hospice Africa Uganda (HAU), to what it is today, a provider of short courses, diplomas, Bachelors and a Master’s Degree commencing soon. IHPCA is the leading provider of palliative care trained healthcare professionals throughout Uganda and has worked to gain that status for all of Africa. IHPCA aims to facilitate the expansion of palliative care throughout Africa through becoming the leading provider of palliative care education.
The vision of HAU Complex is “Palliative care for all in need in Africa.”
The mission of IHPCA is “To provide high quality education up to tertiary levels in palliative care for students and palliative care providers within Uganda and the rest of sub-Saharan Africa through advocacy, education, research, stakeholder trainings and consultation.”
Students who come to IHPCA receive not only a qualification, but a calling to care for patients facing life-threatening illnesses and their families. With a student focused approach IHPCA provides individual mentorship to students who come from across sub-Saharan Africa to ensure they understand the theoretical and practical components of palliative care centred on the patient.
