Hospice Africa Uganda wishes to recruit dynamic, skilled and caring Ugandan committed to palliative care to fill the following positions based at our head office in Makindye, Kampala.

1.  Clinical Director                                                

Location:   Makindye – Kampala

Job Purpose:

As the Lead Clinician the incumbent will direct and manage the interdisciplinary clinical teams in the provision of high quality Palliative Care to patients at the 3 HAU branches and oversee the production of an oral medicinal preparation.

Key tasks:

  • Taking ultimate responsibility for the clinical care provided by HAU to patients and families.
  • As a member of the Senior Management Team he/she provides strategic direction and leadership on clinical matters; Develops and implements clinical department work plans;
  • Develop and manage clinical department budget;
  • Develops/implements clinical policies and procedures;
  • Audit clinical department performance against planned activities and outcomes; and Reports against the work plans;
  • Leads, supervises, supports, coaches, mentors and appraises the inter-disciplinary clinical team
  • Ensures team continuous professional development;
  • Research, and Scholarly and academic writing up regarding palliative care;

Minimum Requirements:

Consultant level clinician with a Masters in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics or Family Medicine; experience in Palliative Care is an added advantage.

2. Grants Manager                 

Location: Makindye – Kampala

Job Purpose: Working in the Programmes& Development Department this Manager contributes significantly to securing income to support the HAU’s mission.

Key tasks:

Proposal writing:

  • Assemble and synthesize key information, write& submit proposals to strategic donors.
  • Search for, develop, oversee, and negotiate partnerships with donors
  • Respond to donor questions and feedback and revise proposals as needed
  • Create timelines for submissions, outline key messaging, and supporting information to compel donor giving and engagement
  • Coordinate the work of members co-opted to support proposal writing into cohesive& compelling content, and work with other departments to generate proposals and budgets

Information Management:

  • Standardize, create and manage templates related to proposal development, information gathering/synthesis& donor reporting
  • Design simple, automated methods of utilizing secondary data to generate background information and illustrative impacts for prospective/existing donors related to programs
  • Work closely with Programmes and Communications teams to draw upon and add to HAU’s core messaging, providing a key resource for knowledge and programming

Donor Reporting: Working with Programme Manager support timely submission of accurate reports

Other: Support development of new programme initiatives and engage in HAU fundraising activities.

Minimum requirements:

Master’s degree preferred, with at least 5 years of relevant experience with 3 years’ experience at senior level in global grants making. Excellent communication, persuasive writing, editing and presentation skills. Coordination and time management skills.

3.  Fundraising officer                          

Location:   Makindye – Kampala

Job Purpose: Working with the Programmes and Development department, this officer devise and implements an active strategy for fundraising to generate resources for continuation of HAU’s work.

Key tasks:

  • Develop strategies, and pursue and monitor fundraising initiatives as per HAU’s sustainability plan for new or increased contributions.
  • Develop materials to submit/ share during fundraising initiatives
  • With the Communications officer, develop and maintain media and key contact lists.
  • Recruit and supervise sponsors, HAU Members, volunteers and the public for fundraising events.
  • With the Development and Programme team, create and update donor databases, and Coordinate fundraising activities including web-based/ online and through social media
  • Attend community events, meetings, etc to promote HAU goals or solicit donations from individuals or corporate donors.
  • Support the department’s donor surveillance work, and engage donors at key time points

Minimum requirements:

Undergraduate qualification, with experience in sales/ marketing, public relations, events management, advertisement, media or business. Previous fundraising training is added advantage. Key skills/ competencies: Building and maintaining relationships, creativity, entrepreneurial attitude towards fundraising, proactivity, drive and enthusiasm to carry out fundraising projects, communication, organizational and project management skills, and ability to motivate others.
