The Famous Cookbook, the “Fishwives”, recently won the best fish & seafood book in the world at the 2017 Gourmand World Cookbook Awards in China!
The book published by Mags Kirwan of Goatsbridge Trout Farm in Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny, in the south east of Ireland won the award and was announced in a colorful ceremony on 28th May in China after beating hundreds of entries from around the world.
“We are so proud of all who have contributed to bringing this book, Fishwives, to success for the millions who suffer daily from cancer and other end of life conditions, lacking affordable or available pain control due to poverty” posted Dr. Anne Merriman on her official facebook page after the award.
“Fishwives” contains 77 recipes from women from diverse backgrounds and professions. One is from the founder of Hospice Africa Uganda, Dr Anne Merriman, who shares her favorite fish pie recipe!
Other contributors to the book include well known Irish chefs like Darina Allen, Clodagh McKenna, Suzanne Campbell, Sally McKenna, Georgina Campbell, and Rachael Allen.
Each book bought will help provide care to a patient for a whole week and Hospice Africa Uganda currently has over 2,000 patients under its care across 3 sites in Kampala, Hoima and Mbarara with the majority of the patients suffering from advanced cases of cancer and HIV/AIDS.
